The Australian Fatherhood Research Symposium (AFRS) has been run on a non-profit basis under the auspices of the AFRC since 2017. It is a vital forum for advancing fatherhood research and practice across Australia and beyond.

Each year, the AFRS brings together a passionate and knowledgeable community of researchers, practitioners and policymakers from diverse disciplines. Every symposium is unique, typically showcasing a dynamic program of keynote presentations, research summaries, round table discussions and networking opportunities that highlight innovative research and father-focused programs.

It’s more than a conference - it’s a collaborative space where individuals united by a shared commitment to understanding and supporting fathers can exchange knowledge and foster meaningful collaboration.

Testimonials

  • “It was absolutely brilliant; there was so much enthusiasm and genuine regard for fathers and value for fatherhood. Despite there being world famous speakers, (and me attending virtually), the environment felt inclusive and welcoming.”

  • “Was an amazing line up and it was the most enjoyable, captivating and interesting conference that I've ever attended.”

  • “As stated by so many, I come back year on year because this is like a warm hug. Fatherhood research is niche and to find your people is very special. Being all in the same space, hearing from experts and practitioners alongside researchers is a unique experience and one which should be cherished.”
